WHY THE AIR DRAIN WAS DESIGNED

Water, through rainfall at or just below the DPC level causes splash back & cold bridging at the DPC level. The result is that wet walls are also cold walls – the wetter they are the colder they are, therefore creating ideal conditions timber decay (both wet & dry rot) of joists, wall plates and other timbers found in older and heritage buildings. This is very concerning where flooring levels & air bricks are directly at the same level. This allows rain water during normal rainfall conditions to flow directly under the floor void vastly increasing saturation levels and humidity levels & to the risks of dry rot establishing itself. The Air Drain works by harnessing the power of natural evaporation, effectively removing excess moisture that typically accumulates against external walls at or below DPC levels.
